What it is

Lumecca is an Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) device included on the ARTG as a Class IIb medical device (ARTG entry 331343). It is designed to deliver broadband light energy to the skin surface for the treatment of superficial vascular and pigmented lesions in skin types I to IV.

How it works

IPL works by delivering light energy that is absorbed by targeted chromophores in the skin, such as melanin in pigmented lesions or haemoglobin in vascular lesions.

Treatment parameters are selected by a qualified practitioner based on individual skin type, lesion characteristics, and treatment history.

Suitability

As with any energy-based device, a thorough consultation is required to assess suitability, including skin type, sun exposure history, medications, and contraindications.

Risks and side effects

Potential risks and side effects can include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, burns, and blistering. Rare risks may include scarring and changes in skin texture.

Risk is minimised through careful patient selection, appropriate parameter selection, and adherence to pre and post treatment care instructions provided by your practitioner.
