Appointments

SK Medical Centre is an appointment based practice that is open 7 days. We do this to allow our practitioners the opportunity to practice “slow medicine” where they can spend time getting to know you and your needs, without the stress of running late or having to cut short the appointment.

We offer different types of appointments and appointment lengths -

  • Short - single, straight forward issue

  • Standard - simple consultation addressing 1-2 issues; review of previous issues or results

  • Long - several issues to discuss; new patients; procedure; Mental Health Care Plan; Chronic Disease Management Plan

  • Extended - several complex issues to discuss; complex medical procedure

If you are unsure which appointment to select, please call Reception on 02 9193 7850.

Emergency appointments will be accommodated where possible.

Please check in with Reception when you arrive for your appointment.

Online Appointments

This is offered via the HotDoc link available on our website or via the phone app store. It allows the convenience of booking with any of our practitioners on a date and time of your choice.

Online appointments reflect the same diary used by our Receptionists.

Telehealth Appointments

This is available to all patients, however Medicare and claiming restrictions will apply.

For example, bulk-billing or claiming a rebate is restricted to patients who: has attended the practice at least once in the last 12 months; or is a child under 12 months of age; or is COVID positive, etc.

If you are unsure whether you are eligible, please call Reception on 02 9193 7850.

Alternatively, you can visit Medicare at this link to learn more.

Appointment Reminders

This is automated via our practice software (Best Practice) or the HotDoc app. You can check or change your appointment at your convenience, up to 2 hours before your appointment time, to avoid any penalties.

These reminders will be sent to you 24-48 hours before your appointment time.

No Show or Cancellation Policy

We encourage patients to let us know at least four hours before their scheduled appointment time if there are any delays or changes. Our Reception Team will accommodate you where possible.

Failure to notify SK Medical Centre will incur a non-refundable fee of $50. No further appointments will be offered until this fee is settled.

Home Visits and Nursing Home Visits

SK Medical Centre offers home and nursing home visits to new and existing patients who are unable to attend the clinic in person, however this will be at the discretion and availability of the doctor on duty on the day.

The patient must be located within 500m of the practice. Private fees apply, starting from $200 and prepayment is required at the time of the booking.

Alternatively, our patients can:

  • book a phone or video appointment at a time that is conveniently to them; or

  • pre-book a home visit with Sydney Medical Service, our afterhours healthcare provider

Medicare

Medicare is Australia’s universal health insurance scheme. It guarantees all Australians (and some overseas visitors with a Reciprocal Agreement) access to a wide range of health and hospital services at low or no cost.

For more information, please visit Medicare’s website here.

Pathology and Radiology Results

Test results are not given over the telephone by our Reception and Nursing staff for privacy reasons. Discussions of test results are done during a follow-up appointment with your GP.

Please allow at least 3 business days for pathology and radiology results to be processed and reviewed by your GP before making a follow up appointment to discuss these results.

Reminder and Recall System

Our practice utilises an automated, electronic reminder and recall system. All patients are encouraged to opt in to electronic communications from SK Medical Centre in order for the practice to send these reminders and recalls to you. Electronic communication also allows you to receive e-prescriptions, emailed referrals, appointment reminders, etc.

Reminders are usually for routine, preventative health care reasons appropriate to your care, such as on time childhood vaccinations, annual flu vaccinations, cervical screening, prostate checks, annual blood tests, etc.

We also participate in the National Cancer Screening Register for cervical screening and bowel screening.

Recalls are requests for you to return to see your doctor regarding clinically significant results, such as abnormal pathology/radiology findings, or to discuss a recent specialist visit, etc. It is important that you attend this to ensure you are kept informed of your healthcare needs.

Communication Policy

If you wish to speak to your doctor, we encourage you to make an in person or telehealth appointment to discuss your medical queries. Our doctors are not able to take patient phone calls whilst in consultation.

Alternatively, our Reception and Nursing staff can answer most queries via phone (02) 9193 7850 or email info@skmedicalcentre.com.au.

If contacting us by email, please allow up to 24 hours for a response.

Electronic Communication

All patients are encouraged to opt in to receiving electronic communications from SK Medical Centre in order for the practice to send you reminders and recalls, as well as send you e-prescriptions, emailed referrals, appointment reminders, etc.

We will not spam you or share your personal information with third parties without your explicit consent. We may at times email you about new patient services or changes to the practice that may affect your patient experience.
